Betty Appleton

Betty Appleton, 86, of Killen, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home in Killen. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Lawrence Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM at the funeral home with Bro. Larry Davis officiating. Burial will be at Owen Chapel Cemetery.

Born on May 13, 1937 to the late Emmett and Agnes Blankenship Hood, Betty attended Mt. Hope High School and was a member of Owen Chapel Baptist Church in Moulton. She enjoyed reading, cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide, gardening, cooking, visiting the Smokey Mountains, and most of all, spending time at church and with her family. Betty raised two children, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and was a mother figure to many other children in her community. Her family was the pride and joy of her life. The legacy of her comforting spirit, helping hands, and loving heart will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Betty was a tireless and selfless person of faith and lived a life serving others. "To live on in the hearts we leave behind is not to die."

Survivors include her children, Karen (Tom) Minnelli, Ricky (Debbie) Appleton; grandchildren, Todd (Misty) Appleton, Scott Appleton, Sarah (Nick) Lough, Amy (Tyler) Martin; great-grandchildren, Zoie Appleton, Ty Appleton, Brooklyn Appleton, Maddox Appleton, Rosie Martin, William Martin, Heidi Lough, and Graham Lough; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Farris (Arminda) Hood; Fay (Louise) Hood, Howard (Lorene) Hood, Jimmy (Syble) Hood; sisters, Ruby (Wallace) White, Clezelle (Wilford) Barkley, Lorene (Sam) Coker, and infant sisters, Fannie Marie and Martha Frances Hood.

Pallbearers will be Todd Appleton, Scott Appleton, Nick Lough, Tyler Martin, Freddy Hood, Ronnie White. Honorary pallbearers are Ty Appleton, Maddox Appleton, William Martin, and Graham Lough.
