Frog McCreless, 74, of Hatton passed away Monday, May 14, 2018 at his home. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. till 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Lawrence Funeral Home. The graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Providence Cemetery with Roger Boswell officiating.
Frog McCreless was a champion of Civil rights. He initiated the lawsuit that brought girl’s sports to Lawrence County, and the lawsuit that provided free text books, quality education, and the free lunch program to all students in Alabama. Frog worked at Reynolds Alloys for over 30 years as an electrician and rarely missed a day, and is a lifetime member of IBEW Local 558.
Survivors include his three daughters, Patty (Tim) Pierce, Paula Bassham, Dixie (Matthew) Terry; eight grandchildren, Barbie (Adam) Terry, Randall Bassham, Preston Bassham, Mya Terry, Alyssa Terry, Sawyer Terry, Conner (Dallas) Pierce and Taylor (Brandon) Kimbrough; four great-grandchildren, Eli Terry, Raylie Pierce, Ellie Pierce and Avery Terry; brother, Waid McCreless, Sr.; and several nieces and nephews and his beloved pet, Tiny.
Frog was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Dawson McCreless; parents, Ola and Earnest McCreless; and sister, Theda Danley.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Terry, Tim Pierce, Adam Terry, Mac McCreless, Lee McCreless, Michael McCreless. Honorary pallbearers are Tyler Barringer, Jackson McCreless, Patton McCreless and Conner Pierce.
