Douglas Joe Wilkins, 82, of Mount Hope, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 08, 2025 at Lawrence Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM at the funeral home with Bro. Charles Williams officiating. Burial will be at Rock Springs Cemetery.
Born on April 29, 1942 to the late Milford and Mildred Borden Wilkins, Doug attended Mount Hope High School and retired from the Lawrence County Road Department after 25 years of service as an operator. After his retirement he continued doing dozer work for the public until just a couple of years ago. He also loved rabbit hunting, deer hunting and keeping an eye on his cows.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Sally Ann Wilkins; children, Carolyn Wilson, Randy (Teresa) Wilkins, and Johnny Wilkins; grandchildren, Casey James, Jesse (Tess) Wilkins, and Jake Wilkins; sister, Earline Fike; brothers, Edward Wilkins, and Junior (Shirley) Wilkins; his dog, Dylan, that went everywhere with him in his Gator; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Pallbearers will be Jesse Wilkins, Taylor Webb, Mark Bradford, Clarence Coan.
The family extends special thanks to the nurses and staff of Enhabit Hospice for their wonderful care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
