James “Johnny” Cheatham, 67, of Moulton passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM till 2:00 PM on Friday, February 21, 2020 at Caddo Congregational Christian Church. The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM immediately following the visitation with Kevin Cheatham, Wayne Turner and Josh McGuire officiating . Burial will be in Caddo Cemetery.
James was a Deacon and Trustee at Berea Baptist Church. He loved Alabama Football, the Atlanta Braves and coaching youth league sports. James was retired from Delphi/Saginaw and was a member of UAW Local 2195. He served on the Lawrence County Board of Education.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years; Rita Shelton Cheatham, a daughter; Laura Cheatham (Katie), Chicago, Illinois, two sons; Keith Cheatham, Moulton, Alabama and Kevin Cheatham (Lindsey), Loretto, Tennessee, six grandchildren; Anna Kate, Avery, Andrew and A.J Cheatham from Loretto, Tennessee, Ava Nan and Audrey Cheatham, Moulton, one brother; Stanley Cheatham (Charlotte) three sisters; Pat Haynes, Sandra Alexander and Edie Fanau (Isala).
He was preceded in death by his brother; Richard Wayne Putman, his mother; Doris Turner Putman and his stepfather; Frank Putman.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Turner, Mike “Bimbo” Moats, Rick Turner, Randy Hill, Roger Dutton, Jerry Carroll, Tim McWhorter, Mark Turner and Jeff Turner. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy and Nell Lentz, Caddo Cafeteria Crew and LCHS Buddies.
The family extends special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Dialysis Center in Moulton and Nathan Martin from Decatur Morgan Home Health.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Berea Baptist Church Camp Fund.
