James Speake

James Thomas “Jimmy” Speake, 80, a beloved father, husband, paw paw, and friend went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2019, after his hard fought battle with cancer. Visitation will be from 12 till 2 pm on Tuesday, April 30th with funeral services following at 2:00 pm at Moulton Baptist Church, where he served as a former Deacon. Jimmy will be laid to rest in the Speake Family Cemetery in Speake, AL. Lawrence Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Jimmy was born on August 14, 1938, to Amos Hough and Aylene Ellenburg Speake in Moulton, AL. He graduated from MT. Hope High School and attended UNA where he met the love of his life, Miss Patsy Cole, of DeRidder, LA. They were later wed on August 22, 1958. The couple was married for 60 years and were the parents to three beautiful daughters. Jimmy was an amazing father who always parented with a gentle hand. He worked for 3M Company in Decatur for 34 years in the positions of Quality Control and Chemist.

Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife, Patsy; children, Gina Speake, Lisa Speake Lowery, and Amanda Speake Newton; grandchildren, Andrew Cahela (Brittney), Cole Lowery, Tucker Speake, Tripp Lowery, Benjamin Newton; and great-granddaughter, Ashton Cahela. He was looking forward to the birth of his great-grandson in September. Jimmy is also survived by his half brothers, Gary Owen and Ron Owen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his aunt, Lorene Dukeminier; half brother, Mickey Owen; and half sister, Debbie Owen Jones.

The family extends special thanks to Tucker Stipe and Valerie Vogler-Stipe, Whitney and Jeff Griffin family, the staff of Alacare Hospice, and all of those who supported Jimmy and his family during his illness.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alacare Hospice of Decatur, AL and the American Cancer Society.
