Joe Wesley Nichols, 83, of Hatton passed away Thursday, September 9, 2021 at his home. Visitation will be from 1:30 till 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 12 at Providence Cemetery. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the cemetery with Bro. Terry Settles officiating. Lawrence Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. The family asks that all who attend wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Born on October 5, 1937 to the late Grady and Effie Nichols, Joe graduated from Hatton High School in 1956 and then from Florence State College (UNA) in 1962. He retired from Champion Papers in 1998 after 27 years of service as a Lab Supervisor.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Doris Fay Nichols; sons, Tab Nichols (Michelle) of Landersville and Kim Nichols (Tammy) of Hatton; grandchildren, Lauren Hatton (Corey), Dakota Nichols, Will Nichols (Kayla), Zeke Nichols (Victoria), and Trey Nichols; great granddaughter, Piper Hatton; brother, Jerry Nichols; sister, Opal Easterwood (Joe); many nieces, nephews and other family; and his pet dog, Fred.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bailey Nichols; and sisters, June Thompson and Betty Scogin.
Pallbearers will be Dakota Nichols, Will Nichols, Zeke Nichols, Trey Nichols, Lauren Hatton, and Corey Hatton.
The family extends special thanks to all of Joe’s nurses and the staff at Southern Care New Beacon Hospice.
