John Burnett Sr.

John Lee "JL" Burnett Sr., 85, of Town Creek passed away Monday, February 14, 2022 at Helen Keller Hospital. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM till 12:00 PM on Friday, February 18, 2022 at Lawrence Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel with Calvin Jones officiating. Burial will be in Providence Cemetery.

JL was born March 9, 1936 to Irvin and Mary Briley Burnett. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. JL served his country in the Korean War with the US Navy. He loved to raise animals of all kind. JL was a painter and carpenter for forty plus years. He always had a magic trick or joke.

Survivors include his son; Johnny Burnett Jr. (Jane) and his daughter; Shelia Steadman (Scott), one grandson; Kaleb Steadman and his pet dog; Cocoa.

He was preceded in death by his wife; Evelyn McCary Burnett, his son and daughter-n-law; Billy Joe (Buddy) Hill and Buddy’s wife; Rebecca (Becky) Hill, his parents; one brother; Leonard Burnett, two sisters; Estelle Long and Aileen Lowery.

Pallbearers will be James Scoggins, Fred Donaldson, David Briley, Alan Fuller, Robert Sappington, and David Filyaw.

The family extends special thanks to Alabama Hospice for the care shown to our dad and the family in his time of need.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
