Linda Grimes

Linda Jane Vandiver Grimes, 72, of Hatton passed away Monday, January 3, 2022 at North Alabama Medical Center. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. on Friday, January 7 at Lawrence Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Stanley Hargett officiating. Burial will be in Blackground Cemetery.

Born on August 28, 1949 to the late Russell and Bertha Vandiver, Linda will be remembered as a caring wife and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved working in the yard, the Alabama Crimson Tide, and spending time with her family. Linda was ready to travel anywhere, anytime, just call her when you were ready. She never met a stranger and simply enjoyed people.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Rayburn Grimes; children, Vicki Odell, Jason Grimes (Melissa), Amy Comer (Jason); grandchildren, Kristi Odell, Katie and Maranda Comer, and Dustin Grimes (Becky) and Kayla Brewer; great-grandchildren, Jace Hester, and Yavanna Grimes; sister, Estelle Mansell; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Freddy Vandiver; and sister, Pat Edwards (Terry).

Pallbearers will be her nephews and friends.

The family extends special thanks to Linda’s doctors and nurses at North Alabama Medical Center, and her husband, Rayburn and granddaughter Kristi Odell for their loving care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or any foster care program. The family also requests that anyone who is able, please consider donating blood in Linda’s memory.
