Marshel Calhoun

Marshel Calhoun, 74 years old, of Town Creek passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Lawrence Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Lawrence Funeral Home with Bro. Billy Jackson and Bro. Wayne Dotson officiating. Burial will be in Landersville Cemetery.

Marshel loved to loafer, you might start one direction and wind up in another with an amazing story about where you would wind up. He loved to go fishing with his son, spend time with his children and grandchildren and all his family. Marshel was an avid Alabama Fan, He would call to check on the score, and Alabama would be much higher in points , and he would ask “Who are they playing, Mt. Hope!” Then he would say “They need to give that other team some points so they don’t feel so bad!”

Survivors include one son; Buddy Calhoun, two daughters; Sadra Montgomery (Temple) and Robbie Hunter (Terry), one sister; Eva Tyler, eight grandchildren; Bradley Lawrimore, Kim Montgomery, Matt Montgomery, Wesley Lawrimore, Grant Borden, Kendra Borden, Sabrina Calhoun and Bryant Calhoun, four great grandchildren; Mackenzie Clark, Nova Claire Montgomery, Carsyn Glenn Cornelius

and Xander Timothy Borden.

He was preceded in death by his wife of Forty two years; Shirley West Calhoun, his parents; Johnie Calhoun and Lola Pauline Borden Calhoun, a daughter; Paula Calhoun Lawrimore, four brothers; John Thomas Calhoun, Arlon Ray Calhoun, Cleo Calhoun and Farris Lee Calhoun, one sister; Ruby Lee Knight.

Pallbearers will be Grant Borden, Matthew Montgomery, James Campbell, Temple Montgomery, Buddy Calhoun and Bryant Calhoun. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kim Montgomery, Sabrina Calhoun and Kendra Borden.

The family extends special thanks to ICU staff at Decatur Morgan Hospital and Dr. Lobo.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
