Melvie Reeves Stout, 77, of Muscle Shoals passed away Sat., July 28, 2018. Visitation will be Friday, Aug 3, 2018, from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm at Lawrence Funeral Home, Moulton, AL. The celebration of life service will immediately follow in the chapel with Pastor Bubba Cole officiating. Burial will be in Chalybeate Springs Baptist Cemetery located at 2751 Co. Rd. 214, Hillsboro AL.
Melvie was born and raised in Chalybeate Springs, AL. She married Gerald Stout of N.C. and had two children, James “Jimmy” Stout and Theresa Kay “Stout” Milligan. She never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to all she met. She worked at the “Ave Maria Grotto” (Little Jerusalem) in Cullman, AL for over a decade managing and greeting people who visited the tourist attraction. If she didn’t know you or you her, you would soon. She was quiet and gentle in spirit, and loved her children and their children with “all her heart” as she always put it. She was a Christian and had her faith in her Lord and expressed often that “she was ready” whenever her time came.
She liked being around people, and prided herself in how she was perceived by others. She was down to earth and loving, yet stylish and precise. She didn’t live an extravagant life and struggled raising children alone, but you’d never know it by meeting her or seeing her out. It didn’t matter where her clothes came from or how old, they would be clean, pressed, and starched with all the jewelry accessories attached. Makeup on, hair done, and a smile on her face ready to greet anyone and everyone.
Mrs. Stout was preceded in death by her parents, Mitchell and Zula Reeves of Hillsboro; four brothers, Garvis Reeves, Howard Reeves, Harlis Reeves, and Hershel Reeves; and one sister, Mildred Reeves Bogle. She had miscarried five babies in her time and would talk about holding them someday in heaven.
She is survived by two daughters, Theresa Kay Milligan and Krystal Valich; one son, James “Jimmy” Stout; three granddaughters, Laura Wimberly (Matthew), Kennedy Hardiman, and Sarah Stout; one grandson, Ben Stout; two great granddaughters, McKarlie Wimberly and Lucie Wimberly; and two sisters, Marie Harville and Melba Reeves.
Pallbearers will be Doug Reeves, James “Jimmy” Stout, Ben Stout, Daniel Owens, Dale Owens, Matt Wimberly and Brad Crawford.
Her favorite color was yellow, her flowers were daisies. Her favorite prayer was “Our Father Who Art in Heaven” and her verse that spoke to her most was the 23rd Psalm.
We Love You and will miss you, but dance all you want now Nana!
