William Masterson

January 24, 1932 — March 9, 2023

William "Bud" Stinson Masterson, 91, of Town Creek passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Mt. Zion #1 Missionary Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM with Bro. Timothy Murray and Bro. Kenneth Bond officiating. Burial will be at Masterson Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Born January 24, 1932 to the late John Kyle and Grace Lowry Masterson, Bud grew up in Lawrence County. After high school, he entered the Navy Reserves and eventually the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served his country as a Corporal. After discharge, Bud met his sweetheart and soon-to-be wife, Nora Mae Lewis. For many years thereafter, Bud worked for Ford Motor Company, at locations in Alabama, Michigan, and Canada. After retiring as a Supervisor, Bud continued working as a farmer, raising cattle, producing significant quantities of hay, and growing many delicious things in and around his garden, including peaches. Bud heartily enjoyed a juicy peach on a hot summer's day, surrounded by his family. One of his greatest joys was to be part of just about everything his grandchildren did. Bud was a constant supporter of Alex and Anna Grace, always ready to instruct in the value of hard work and offer proud congratulations for a job well-done. He served his church body as a deacon at Mt. Zion #1 Missionary Baptist Church for many years. Bud was a college football fan, and unless he was bird hunting with Mike and Alex (and even when he was), he'd always be tuned into Auburn's football game every Saturday during the season. He also enjoyed following Auburn's other sports. He felt blessed to see three great-grandchildren in his lifetime and, even in his last years, was thrilled to spend time with these little ones in his home. Bud will be sorely missed by his family, church, and community.

Survivors include his son, William Michael (Kim) Masterson, grandchildren, Alex (Faith) Masterson, Anna Grace (Kyle) West; great-grandchildren, Piper Blake Masterson, Nora Grace West, and Asher Kyle West; brothers, Luther (Jean) Masterson, Steven (Deanie) Masterson, and Dwight Masterson; along with nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Bud is preceded in death by his wife, Nora Lewis Masterson; parents; brother, Kenneth Masterson; sisters-in-law Bobbie Masterson and Paulette Masterson.

Pallbearers will be Alex Masterson, Kyle West, Kelly Hill, Roger Masterson, Brad Pool, and Mark Craig. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Masterson, Ted Bradford, Billy Bradford, Robert Smith, and Rayburn Pace.

The family extends special thanks to David Schultz, M.D., Ph.D. and Amedysis Hospice.
